Alber Elbaz thinks modern clothes are mostly "awful and ugly."
The Lanvin chief - who is renowned for his love of simple styling - believes many outfits for the 21st century woman are too hard to wear, and wants to think of modernity as "beautiful, emotional and comfortable."
"Every time I think about modern, I always think about something awful and ugly, and all I am trying to do is think that modern can be beautiful. Modernity is not black leather, and modernity is not 17 zippers and modernity is not rock 'n' roll or heavy metal. Modernity for me is beautiful and emotional and comfortable and timeless. I mean, to see a woman sitting on 50 meters of tulle, I am not sure it's modern."
The Israeli designer reveals he wants his clothes to be worn by women who have a busy lifestyle and need function over fashion: "I think that I was very alert to women, and I am seeing more and more that women are changing. Their lifestyle is becoming more and more complex and more and more difficult on a daily basis. So I was trying always to simplify their life. For instance, dresses in the first collection, a lot of people said they were very romantic, I didn't see the romantic side of the dresses; I saw the easiness, the simplicity."
Avril Lavigne’s British Influence
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Avril Lavigne's clothing range is heavily influenced by British music.
The Canadian singer's Abbey Dawn line is inspired by some of her favourite 70s punk bands, such as the Sex Pistols and believes her influences are clear to see in her designs.
"Sexy and rock 'n' roll, that's my style. Messy hair, black eyes, fishnets. And you see this in my clothing collection through the colors and the styles. A lot of my designs are inspired by British music. I'm a big Sex Pistols fan and I love the old-school rocker grunge look, so a lot of my pieces feature red plaid and skulls."
The name of Avril's clothing line comes from an old nickname and alias she used to check into hotels without being spotted: "It's called that because I'm Abbey Dawn. It was my nickname when I was growing up and it was the first alias I used when I didn't want people to know which hotel I was in."

Gwyneth Paltrow takes fashion advice from her daughter.
The Country Strong star - who topped the best-dressed lists with her Tom Ford cape dress at Sunday night's Oscars - admits seven-year-old Apple's opinion counts for a lot when it comes to dressing for the red carpet.
"My daughter loves a fashion moment. She weighs in very heavily."
Talking about the unusual gown choice, Gwyneth says she was inspired by a similar outfit worn by America's former First Lady, Jackie Onassis. The 39-year-old actress told American talk show The Chew: "I tried on one dress. That was the dress and I thought, 'it's a little different but it's sort of a throwback. I saw a pic of Jackie O in a white dress with a cape and it's been a while since anyone's worn a cape, frankly, except for Superman."
According to People Magazine, Jackie designed the ensemble in question herself for husband John F. Kennedy's inaugural ball in 1961.

The 19-year-old Chicago born model, however, admitted recently she was missing New York Fashion Week, tweeting, "No one is more bummed than me to be missing out on all of the#NYFW fun - sending all my love to NYC! Xx (sic)"

The Scottish designer - who was one of a number of names pinned to the role formerly held by John Galliano - has revealed he has not been approached but is "flattered" people believe he could do the job.
"While it is incredibly flattering that I could be considered for a role at a house such as Dior at this stage in my career, I can confirm that I have not been approached. I am focused on developing my own label and my ongoing collaboration with Donatella Versace for Versus.''
Raf Simons is firm favorite to take on the highly-prized position at the French fashion house following his departure from Jil Sander, but as yet it has not been confirmed.
Kathryn Bigelow To Direct Chanel Campaign

Kathryn Bigelow will direct Chanel's latest men's fragrance campaign.
The Academy Award-winning director has been snapped up by the brand to create the film promoting Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, starring professional surfer Ben Fuller and the company revealed they chose her because of her affinity with the sport.
"Kathryn Bigelow has an amazing vision and ability to direct action-filled moments. In addition to The Hurt Locker, she also directed the surf film Point Break. She was the best person to direct this type of campaign, especially because of her affinity for the sport of surfing. Because Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is the extreme version of the classic Allure Homme, the new concentration was meant to be more edgy, avant-garde and take more risks. This campaign does, as well," Christine Dagousset, executive vice president of fragrance and beauty at Chanel, told WWD.
Christine added that rather than affecting sales of Allure Homme and Allure Homme Extreme by adding a new fragrance, Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme actually increases sales of both: "It's actually also a great opportunity to put a new light on Allure Homme, in addition to Allure Homme Extreme. We don't want to cannibalize Blue, so we are very carefully positioning Allure Homme and Blue in different ways. It's not about launching and leaving. It's about adding to the collection and boosting the business."
Miranda Kerr works hard to maintain her svelte figure.
The Victoria's Secret model quickly regained her amazing body following the birth of her son, Flynn, 13 months ago but admits it wasn't easy: "It's been a lot of yoga and Pilates, and eating healthily. It does take hard work."
The Australian beauty is known for following a strict organic diet and sticking to a rigorous fitness regime but admits she does sometimes treat herself: "If you want to have a little indulgence every now and then, then that's okay. Sometimes I'll feel like some dark chocolate or sometimes I'll feel like some French fries."
Miranda, 28, recently revealed how important it is for women to feel good about themselves. "I can't feel bad about being who I am, just like the girl next to me can't feel bad about being who she is. Because a rose can never be a sunflower, and a sunflower can never be a rose. I want to encourage women to embrace their own uniqueness. Because just like a rose is beautiful, so is a sunflower, so is a peony. I mean, all flowers are beautiful in their own way, and that's like women too."
Chloe Moretz has been named as MaxMara's 2012 Face of the Future.
The 15-year-old actress will be honored by the label at an awards ceremony in Beverly Hills in June and she follows in the footsteps of Katie Holmes, Zoe Saldana and Emily Blunt.
Criteria for The Women in Film, MaxMara Face of the Future Award includes "an actress experiencing a turning point in her career" and "embodiment of style and grace."
Despite her tender age, Chloe is renowned for her style and recently revealed she strives to look "flirty" yet age appropriate on the red carpet. The Hugo star loves dressing up for film premieres and events but admitted she relies on a stylist to ensure she dresses her age: "It's all up to my stylist, Nell Kalonji. I owe it to her for everything she pulls for me and puts together for me. [I] have to be very age appropriate, but at the same time flirty and chic and young. I definitely keep it safe because I'm not that kind of girl. I'm not risque - I'm very normal and grounded. So I definitely don't want to get older when I have a lot of time to do that."
